Having joined the practice in 1988, Matthew has been Managing Director of Levitt Bernstein since 1997.
During this time, he has worked extensively in the residential sector on large-scale urban renewal projects and housing of all types and tenures, including specialist housing for older people. Throughout, he works with stakeholders and communities to empower residents through the design process – an approach that had been rewarded with numerous competition-winning schemes.
In addition to project work, Matthew has been involved in the practice’s housing research commissions on space standards and non-mainstream housing, including the HAPPI report on the future of housing for older people. He also co-authored the publications Superdensity the Sequel and Altered Estates and regularly speaks at industry events.
He also leads the practice’s work in the education and healthcare sectors and has particular expertise in the refurbishment of 20th-century buildings.
